Hyères - Château du Galoupet

At the junction of the D559a, D12 and the N98 along the Route du Nice you can see a large hill. There you will find, at the vineyard Galoupet, the Battery Mauvanne.
Follow the small road towards the vineyard and after a few hundred meters keep left, towards the Atelier Sphinx. On the top of the hill you will find some old French fortifications, you have to ask permission to visit the terrain. Between the old French fortifications are the German bunkers of the Battery Mauvanne.
You can visited all the objects, 4 casemates M272, 1 storagebunker and the fire-control bunker type M262
In the old French fort you can see from outside an emplacement and a french bunker from the start of the war.
Due to other activities we where not fully prepared for this trip so this battery, and some other locations are not completely covered. We will go back another time.
